Leighton House Museum is the former studio-house of the great Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830-1896). Located on the edge of Londons Holland Park, the house is one of the most extraordinary buildings of the nineteenth century. The sumptuous interiors are hung with important paintings by Leighton and his contemporaries including John Everett Millais, Edward Burne-Jones and George Frederick Watts. The Museum provides an unforgettable insight into Leightons private world and is a unique venue for the understanding and appreciation of Victorian art and architecture. Leighton was planning the construction of his house from 1864 and he was in residence by 1866. His architect was George Aitchison. Together architect and artist would continue to embellish and extend the building almost until Leighton's death in 1896. The following floor plans of the house show the three main stages of development of the building. Click on each room to find out more about it.
